Both process and media are evolving in my studio. The search for a way to evoke ice layers in geologic time led to three-dimensional experiments in translucent materials, which in turn has led me to maps and linen.
Derivative Map-Dissection Constructions
During my years as a geologist, I projected earth/time data onto map surfaces. Now a much-beloved stockpile of mylar topographic maps provides me with place, material, and inspiration. I cut strips, hand-stitch, and join them into forms relating to that place. They exist as an important broadening of my art realm and as a compliment to my paintings.
